Contact Flooring provides warehouse floor repairs in Edinburgh, the Lothians and the east of Scotland. Alongside repairing cracks, joints, holes and worn coatings, we focus on what happens next: making the repaired floor safer, with slip resistant finishes, pedestrian walkways and clear line marking. Our Scottish work includes repeat projects for an international timber importer, completed in short shutdown windows and handed back for production on time.
Industrial floor repairs in Edinburgh: repairs that improve safety
For many Edinburgh facilities the trigger for floor work is a health and safety review. Damaged concrete, broken joints and slippery or worn surfaces create trip and slip hazards, and walkways that are not clearly marked put pedestrians and forklifts in the same space. A good repair project tackles both: fix the floor, then make it safer to use.
We cover Edinburgh and the surrounding area, including Sighthill, Newbridge, Leith, Livingston, Straiton and Loanhead, as well as the rest of Scotland.
Case study: international timber importer, Scotland, 998m2
As an approved contractor for this international timber importer, this was our seventh project installing slip resistant coatings and walkways as part of the company's new health and safety roll-out. Walkways needed to be 1.2 metres wide and edged with 100mm safety yellow lines.
- Timescale: just three days to complete the work.
- Preparation: the areas were shot blasted.
- Coating: two coats of hard-wearing mid grey epoxy incorporating a small aggregate for slip resistance.
- Walkways: 38m2 of green walkways with 100mm safety yellow edge lines.
- Handover: the areas were put into production on the Monday morning as promised.

What we repair in east of Scotland facilities
Timber yards, food and drink producers, distribution units and engineering workshops each wear a floor in their own way, but the repairs needed tend to include:
- slab joints chipped open by forklift wheels in busy aisles;
- concrete broken up at loading doors and goods-in areas;
- old painted or coated floors that have become smooth and slippery, or worn back to dusty concrete;
- cracks and holes that have been filled before and failed again.
Repeat failures usually point to a repair that was not bonded to sound concrete, so we cut back further and prepare properly before rebuilding.
From repair to a safer floor
A typical Edinburgh repair-and-improve project runs like this:
- Survey of the damage, traffic routes and pedestrian movements.
- Preparation by shot blasting or grinding to clean, sound concrete.
- Repairs to cracks, holes, spalled areas and joints, using epoxy injection, repair mortars and flexible joint resin as needed.
- Finish with a hard-wearing coating, with aggregate for slip resistance where required.
- Demarcation of walkways, crossing points and traffic lanes.
Where only the damaged areas need attention, we repair them and leave the rest of the floor alone. Our main warehouse floor repairs page explains each repair method.
Short shutdowns and weekend working
Production sites in the Lothians rarely have long periods when floors can be closed. We plan work around the window you have, whether that is a weekend, a short shutdown or a phased programme, and agree in advance when each area will be ready for use. The timber project was completed in three days and back in production on the Monday.
Is a repair enough?
If the slab is sound and damage is local, targeted repairs are usually enough. If damage is widespread, a coating is failing or you want walkways and slip resistance across the floor, repairing and resurfacing in one programme is often the better choice. Our floor repairs and renovation page compares the options. For new resin floors, see our resin flooring contractors in Edinburgh page, and for the west of Scotland our Glasgow floor repairs page.
Common questions
Can you add slip resistance when you repair our floor?
Yes. Aggregate can be incorporated into the coating applied after repairs, as on the timber importer project.
Can you mark out pedestrian walkways at the same time?
Yes. Walkways and safety lines can be installed once the floor is repaired and coated, so the whole job is completed in one programme.
We only have a weekend. Is that enough?
It depends on the size of the area and the materials needed. We will tell you at survey what can realistically be completed and handed back in your window.
