Contact Flooring are resin flooring contractors in Wolverhampton, laying floors for manufacturers and warehouse operators that cope with oil, chemicals and forklift traffic. Our Midlands office covers the city and the Black Country, backed by our head office in Hyde, Greater Manchester, and we have over 20 years of experience installing industrial resin flooring.
Our main published project in the city is for an oil and fluids manufacturer in Wolverhampton, where we have installed over 3000m2 of 6mm polyurethane screed, plus a final 692m2 phase described below.
Resin flooring contractors in Wolverhampton: an oil and fluids manufacturer
This client is a specialist oil manufacturer and distributor. After the first 3000m2 or more of 6mm PU screed, we were asked back to finish the last area of the facility: a goods-out zone with heavy traffic, a history of oil contamination and several different finishes laid over the years.
Because the requirements were already understood, we kept to the same specification and processes as the earlier phases:
- Preparation. Two days of intensive grinding to strip the old finishes and open up the surface, without causing more damage to the concrete than necessary.
- Repairs and primer. Minor repairs, then an oil tolerant primer, left to cure overnight and inspected the following morning.
- Anchoring. The floor was chased with diamond-tipped blades so the screed would grip the substrate, a basic requirement for this type of system that is not always followed.
- Installation. The 6mm polyurethane screed was laid over three days, giving a hard-wearing, chemical resistant finish with good slip resistance.
- Extra grip at the door. A heavier 1-2mm aggregate was blinded into the roller shutter entrance, where forklifts run in from wet conditions.

Industrial flooring in Wolverhampton and the Black Country
Wolverhampton sits at the heart of a manufacturing region built on metals, engineering and vehicles. Today that includes aerospace and automotive suppliers, metal finishing and fabrication, plastics, chemicals and oils, and a growing number of logistics buildings close to the M6 and M54.
We cover the city and the surrounding area, including Bilston, Willenhall, Wednesbury, Darlaston, Walsall, Dudley, the i54 business park, Cannock and Telford.
Typical floor demands in these buildings include:
- oil, coolant and lubricant spills that soak into bare concrete and stop coatings bonding;
- heavy steel components dropped or dragged across the floor;
- forklifts braking and turning at goods-in and goods-out doors;
- a need for clear pedestrian routes in busy production halls.
Choosing a system: screeds, coatings and anti-slip finishes
For oily, heavily trafficked production and despatch areas, a polyurethane resin screed is the natural choice, as the Wolverhampton project shows. Where floors are wet or oily during normal work, anti-slip resin flooring with aggregates adds grip, from a fine texture across the whole floor to heavier aggregate at doors.
Lighter areas, such as storage, assembly and packing, can often take an epoxy high build coating instead. At a new industrial fluid manufacturing facility elsewhere in the West Midlands, a failing coating was removed with three passes of shot blasting before a thick high build epoxy and a UV stable polyurethane top coat were laid across 540m2. See the West Midlands 540m2 project.
Other Midlands projects include a 2021m2 warehouse in Birmingham, a 720m2 bottling and storage area for a vaping distributor in Derby, and a 9mm PU screed for a Ducati workshop in Stoke. Resin flooring installers in Wolverhampton: how we work
Every project begins with a survey from our Midlands office. We look at the slab, how deep any oil contamination goes, old coatings, joints and moisture, and agree with you which areas can be handed over and when.
The floor is then mechanically prepared and repaired, primed and installed in phases where the site needs to keep working. Lines, walkways and hatching are added at the end, and each section is returned to use once cured.
Repairs to existing floors
If your floor needs repair rather than a new system, see our industrial and warehouse floor repairs page for crack, joint and concrete repairs.
Common questions
Can resin be laid on an oil-contaminated factory floor?
Often, yes. It depends on how deep the contamination goes. Intensive grinding and an oil tolerant primer were used on the Wolverhampton project before the screed was laid.
How thick should a factory floor screed be?
It depends on use. Our Wolverhampton screed is 6mm; the Stoke workshop used 9mm to bring the floor up to level.
Do you have an office in the Midlands?
Yes. We have a Midlands office as well as our head office in Greater Manchester, and we install across the UK.
